Двома бігунами була представлена Буковина на Чемпіонаті України з марафонського бігу, який гостював у Білій Церкві, де свого часу чемпіон світу з бігу на 100 км Сергій Яненко встановив чинний рекорд області на дистанції 42 км 195 м – 2:11.04. Цього разу марафон долали Сергій Дуган та Андрій Карпов, які трішки не дотягнули до першої десятки.

Майже всю дистанцію у буковинському «дербі» перед вів Сергій Дуган, який певний час тримався неподалік від лідерів. Але ближче до фінішу знесилений підопічний Дениса Тищука і Валерія Кожокаря «підсів», що дозволило землякові Андрію Карпову (тренер – Сергій Яненко) обігнати його. На фініші Карпов був 12-м і показав результат 2:25,45, що на 2.45 сек. гірше за норматив майстра спорту, який, до слова, підкорився дев’ятьом учасникам. Дуган фінішував 13-м з результатом 2:26.39. А перемогу святкував Василь Ремщук з Вінниці – 2:15.13.

Якщо вдатися до історії, то варто згадати, що Буковина має доволі непогані традиції в марафонському бігу. Крім згаданого Сергія Яненка, чий рекорд області (2:11,04), встановлений у Білій Церкві, тримається досі, у марафоні свого часу виблискувала Зоя Гаврилюк – переможниця Московського міжнародного марафону миру, марафону в Лонг-Бічі (США) та ін. А вже за часів незалежності чернівчани Ігор Сурла та Михайло Пужняк вибороли на цій дистанції «злото» та «срібло» на І Всеукраїнських іграх 1995 р., а буковинська команда посіла перше місце в командному заліку.
