Майстер спорту з легкої атлетики, перший серед буковинців переможець Всеукраїнських літніх спортивних ігор на марафонській дистанції.

Народився 29 жовтня 1971 року в селі Шипинці Кіцманського району. Закінчив Чернівецький технікум залізничного транспорту та Чернівецький національний університет (історичний факультет).

Легкою атлетикою почав займатися з 6 класу під керівництвом місцевого фахівця Іллі Одовійчука. Згодом перейшов до групи заслуженого тренера України Дениса Тищука.

На національній арені вперше заявив про себе у 1988 році, коли виборов “срібло” на зимовій юнацькій першості України у двоборстві 1000 та 3000 м і представляв республіку на юнацькому чемпіонаті СРСР у Кишиневі. Там посів четверте місце, випередивши, зокрема, майбутнього триразового володаря Кубка Європи і рекордсмена України Андрія Булковського. Цікаво, що незадовго до цих успіхів Ігоря рекомендували столичному спортивному інтернату, але там його “забракували” як… неперспективного.

Норматив майстра спорту вперше виконав у 1993 році на дистанції 1500 м. Відзначався неабиякою універсальністю. Неодноразово перемагав та ставав призером на юніорських та дорослих національних змаганнях на дистанціях від 1500 м до марафону (42 км 195 м). Майстер спорту від 1500 м до марафону.

На історичних перших за часів незалежності Всеукраїнських спортивних іграх у 1995 році здобув “золото” у марафоні.

Найбільший міжнародний успіх – друге місце на клубному Кубку Європи на дистанції 3000 м з перешкодами. Брав участь також у чемпіонаті світу з кросу та Кубку Європи з легкої атлетики (1994 р.).
