Дві нагороди виборов чернівчанин Юрій Омельченко на майстрівському Чемпіонаті світу зі спортивного орієнтування 2012 р. в Німеччині.

Майстрівськими називають ветеранські змагання. Цього разу ветеранський Чемпіонат світу гостював поблизу німецького містечка Бад-Гарцбург.

Кращий орієнтувальник України Юрій Омельченко, який з 1996 р. живе і тренується в шведському містечку Карлскроне, тепер вже представляв Швецію і клуб «Оріон». І виявився єдиним серед наших, який піднявся на п’єдестал пошани. У категорії М-40 на спринтерській дистанції, на якій свого часу Юрій сенсаційно переміг на Чемпіонаті світу 1995 р. (до речі, теж в Німеччині), зірковий чернівчанин з результатом 14 хв. 19 сек. був другим після Томаса Йєнсена з Данії (13,59). Тут вони долали 3,7 км. А довгу дистанцію (10,1 км) Омельченко пробіг за 1:09.40 і також виборов «срібло», пропустивши вперед того ж Йєнсена (1:06.14). У цій номінації сенсаційний бронзовий успіх святкував Овідіу Мутіу з сусідньої Румунії (1:11.23).

На Чемпіонаті світу виступав і президент чернівецького клубу «Оріон» Олександр Палагнюк. У категорії М-50, яку Юрій Омельченко назвав найсильнішою за складом, Палагнюк показав 15-й результат на довгій дистанції.
